Emphasis is placed upon the children’s attitudes towards themselves, other children and the adults with whom they are in contact during our P.S.H.E. (Personal, Social and Health Education) sessions.

At Beeches, we follow the Jigsaw scheme of work with an empathetic nature in order to support the children and their social and emotional health education journey.

If staff become aware of, or have need to become involved in, situations where a child may be at risk of hurting themselves or others, or if the behaviour of a child seriously disrupts good order in the school or causes damage to property, staff may need to take steps to intervene physically. In such circumstances staff will follow the school’s policy for dealing with such situations.

Intent: Our aim is to equip pupils with a sound understanding of risk together with the knowledge and skills necessary to make safe and informed decisions.  We intend to make all our children acknowledge, understand and appreciate their cultural background and that of others; show respect for all individuals; feel empowered and value their place today.  We aim to develop their sense of identity in order to understand the contribution they can make in society.  At Beeches Junior School, we intend to provide a safe space where our children feel free to express and celebrate themselves and their families.   

Implementation: At Beeches Junior School, we follow the JIGSAW scheme of work.  Throughout the scheme, the lessons provide the opportunity for children to enhance their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.  We are an active Anti-racism school founded on an ethos of equality and respect and with the help of our Children Anti-racism Ambassadors through regular classroom discussions, awareness and action can be taken where required.  Having Anti-bullying and Equality weeks as a high priority at our school, embeds fully our moral compass here at Beeches Juniors.    

Impact: Throughout their experiences at Beeches Junior School, PSHE forms a cohesive picture helping children to know and value who they are and understand how they relate to others in the World.  Through their learning, we will raise their level of self-esteem and self-importance resulting in confident, well-rounded children who know how to keep themselves safe as well as seek out help and guidance should they feel the need to without any fear or hesitancy.
